Pōkākā is a widespread native tree that grows to about 12 meters tall and has a distinct difference between the in juvenile and mature leaves. The juvenile leaves a small and tooth shaped while the mature leaves are smooth and concaved with a slightly variegated edge. It almost grows the entire length of Aotearoa growing from Stewart Island to Mangonui.
